About the Workshop

We write because something is missing in what has already been written about the subjects that matter to us and our readers. Yet without methods for structuring that sense of lack, writers tend to default to describing what has already been written rather than presenting their own arguments. Write: Argument is a carefully designed, principled pedagogy that teaches participants across disciplines and areas of expertise to think problems with existing literature(s) — as well as ’solutions’ to those problems — in structured, written form. The urgency of this course redoubles in our age of generative AI. Descriptive and fluent prose is produced with ease now, but too often at the expense of making arguments – the very reason we want to write in the first place.
