We begin with a close reading of Freud's Lectures on Psychoanalysis to grasp the universal structure of the psyche - a dynamic relation between the unconscious and conscious. We then move to Jacques Lacan's interpretation of Freud, considering selections from his Seminars to determine what desire is and how fantasy coordinates our desires in and of the world. With Marx, we map fantasy in the world of capitalist modernity.
